I will always be grateful to Jane for the care she gave my father, Robert Scaia when he was dying of cancer. She was a true angel!

Dear Merrill Family,
I am saddened also, to learn of Jane's passing. I had the privilege of getting to know Jane, when we both worked at HOSPICE of CNY many years ago. I really admired her hard work and the dedication she gave to her patients, employers, and co-workers. She always gave at least 200% to any task she undertook, and she often volunteered to do more. She was truly one of the most hard working and honest women I have ever worked with. CNY is a better place today; just because Jane was here.
Keeping Jane and all of you in my thoughts and prayers,
Diane C Spitz

Laura, Scott, JC – I wish I could give you a hug in person from my family to your family. It doesn’t matter how old we’ve gotten or how far away we’ve moved or the amount of time that has passed since I’ve seen any of you in person – your mom and her connection to our family is a part of who I am. You mother will be missed. Love from me and my family.

Laura, Scott and JC,
my condolences go out to you. Your mom was so great to me and to my mom. Three years ago, my mom and I visited your mom at the Regency towers. It was nice to see her then and best wished in the days and months ahead.
with love,

Laura, Scott & JC. I'm sure you don't remember me, but my parents, Bill & Doris von Hassel, and yours were good friends when we lived in Syracuse. If I remember right, you temporarily took care of our beagle Lassie when we lived in Germany. You also visited us when we stayed in the 1000 Islands. I have photos of you guys from that time. I remember your parents well and remember many delicious dinners at your Syracuse home. So sorry to hear of your loss. Know that there are many of us with fond memories of your mother.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Jane at Park Central. She was a terrific person. I remember she invited all of us to her camp in PA. What an adventure. The bear outside the door was especially exciting. Like me, she liked to grow plants. She gave me many plants from her garden and I returned the favor. And I remember her Red Hat. We had some great lunches together with the Red Hats group. I'll look for photos.
This is a difficult time without having all her friends show their love to you in person. Know that we all loved her and miss her.

Laura, Scott, JC. You may remember your Mom and I were great friends when you were teens and my boys were small, mostly through our association at Park Central. She was quite a mentor to me as a mother - I had some very challenging times and she was steady as a rock and quite sensible. I really appreciated her advice and guidance, and above all her sense of humor! During those times, even though there was a bit of an age difference, we became great friends. Dorothy Rose's Thursday Group was our gathering spot, and then of course the week=ends at the cabin that we so looked forward to and enjoyed tremendously.
Jane was also a good friend of my mother's as well. Both nurses - practical, reliable, wise, generous, thoughtful. I had to have a series of minor surgeries at one point. Your mom offered me such great support and assurance (and rides!) and on those days I'd come home to find a fistful of sweet flowers to cheer me up! No note, but I knew right away who they were from.
Remember her red bus? A good number of us would pile in and the fun would begin. There was even a small table in the back and I had contributed a crystal bud vase, which we taped to the table to add some class to our hilarious rides to and from the cabin.
I understand the last few years have been very limiting and frustrating for her, so I hope she is at rest.
I regret we cannot get together to share memories. I look forward to a time in the future when we can. There are some great stories to be told. Love to you all. Donna Stoner

Just today I saw the obituary (9/13/2020) that Jane had died. We knew one another from Hospice of CNY back when it was the Caring Coalition. I loved her wisdom, humor, down to earth-ness, and all things good. We had some precious time over the years, and I deeply regret having lost touch. Sending love and condolences to you her family, the church and her great friends through the years.
