Obituary of Elsie Cote Schwickrath

Elsie Cote Schwickrath, was born on February 15, 1923 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada to William and Margaret Schiermeyer Cote. She graduated from North High School and Powelson Business School. She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church and was a volunteer at Meals on Wheels and Upstate University Hospital. She enjoyed traveling, meeting new people and the companionship of family and friends. Elsie was pre-deceased by her husband Daniel Schwickrath who died in 1982, a son William Peter who died in 1956, and a sister Mary Cropp who died in 2014. She is survived by 3 daughters: Mary (David) Nortman, Helen (partner, Tilman Freitag) Schwickrath, Nancy (Richard) O'Brien; a brother William Cote of British Columbia, Canada; 2 grandsons: Timothy Burniski and Daniel O'Brien; 2 great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10am at the Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-6pm at the funeral home, 1217 N. Salina Street. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels or Upstate University Hospital.
