Jason was my first best friend at St. Lucy’s from preschool all the way until 5th grade. We would walk to the Indian Club after school every day, where Mrs. Kawryga worked. We would play football on Fabius Street, or run around the old Crowley building, or go to Sam’s to play Pac Man and buy candy, or just ride our bikes. I remember him playing hockey, and football, and baseball for Eastwood. Everyone liked Jason. He was a good-hearted person. Over the years, we lost touch. I ran into Jason at Cerio’s Tavern about 5-6 years ago, after a Syracuse game. I hadn’t seen Jason in over 30 years. I went to buy him a drink, but they don’t take credit/debit cards at Cerio’s. Jason gave me $50 in cash. We ended up talking the entire night, laughing, and recalling old stories. It was like no time had passed. Mr. Kawryga, I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. Jason was a special person-always had a smile on his face, and I'm sure he's smiling with his Mom right now.

When the kids played hockey Jason Kawryga was like a 3rd child in our family. He was a delightful child and I was so pleased when he friended me on Facebook. It was wonderful to keep up on his life and I am devastated to hear of his passing. But I am also uplifted by the posts of so many of his dearest friends because it is clear that he was still an easy person to love and a good friend to many. I will always cherish the memories we had all those years ago. He was such a good kid. My heart goes out to Ted, the whole family and all his friends. I truly believe Terry scooped him up as soon as he crossed and I believe he can feel all the love being sent his way.
