Please share a memory of Klaus to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Klaus O. Baasch, 84, of Baldwinsville, died on Saturday, February 27, 2021 under the care of the compassionate and dedicated staff of Hospice of CNY and Francis House. Klaus was a native of Kiel, Germany and moved to the United States in 1958 after a short period of time in Canada. He was a veteran of the US Army and served from 1959-61 in Germany. Upon his return to Syracuse, he and his friend Bruno from Germany operated a pizza shop on the South Side of Syracuse. While working and raising a family, Klaus attended Syracuse University at night and received his degree in accounting. He spent over 50 years in private practice as a CPA and had many clients in Syracuse, Fulton and Oswego. He was dedicated to his clients, his work ethic and his accounting partners. When it wasn’t “tax season”, Klaus enjoyed gardening, reading and classical music. In his retirement, he volunteered at Catholic Charities, St. Joseph’s Hospital and exercised at the YMCA. Klaus’ family want to acknowledge the staff of the 6th floor of Community General Hospital, including Dr. Gambhir, for their professionalism and support. In his final days at Francis House, Klaus was cared for and experienced true love and respect from the staff at Francis House. They showed him a small glimpse of Heaven and allowed him to pass on with dignity. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Vaught Baasch, who died in 2015, and brothers-in-law: Jack and William Fowler. His surviving family include his children: Tina (Chris) Shepardson of Jamesville, Thomas Baasch of Orlando, Christine (John) Bauersfeld of Newburgh, IN; granddaughters: Payton Shepardson, Lydia and Elana Bauersfeld; his close friend and care giver Dennis Chopan; sister-in-law Bette Fowler of Ontario and his Canadian nieces and nephews. Klaus’ wish was for all services to be private. He will be interred in Woodlawn Cemetery with his wife Betty. Memorial contribution in memory of Klaus, may be made to Francis House or Hospice of CNY.
