Obituary of Lorna C. O'Toole
Please share a memory of Lorna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness the family of Lorna (Caveney) O’Toole, 87, announce her passing. Lorna passed away peacefully, Monday, October 26th after a brief illness surrounded by loved ones.
Lorna was born November 9, 1932 in Syracuse, New York. She was a graduate of North High School and worked for over 30 years for the New York Telephone Company. In retirement, she and her husband, Jim enjoyed their camp at Cape Vincent, traveling and spending time with their family and dear friends. Later in her life she cherished her time and fellowship at the Camillus Senior Centre.
Lorna did not have children of her own but was the very proud Aunt to the Scarcelli, Simone and O’Toole children and grandchildren. Whether they called her Aunt Lorna, Aunt Non or just Nonnie, she was a treasure to them all. Ask any of the nieces and nephews and they will tell you Lorna was the life of the party. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, the occasional trip to the casino and most of all cheering on her beloved Yankees. She was gifted at the piano and was a gracious hostess to many celebrations in her home. Lorna was an excellent baker and had a knack for remembering everyone’s favorite treat.
Lorna was a wonderful example for the next generation through her philanthropy and volunteerism. Over the years she wore many hats at Holy Family Church. She served on the parish counsel, bereavement committee and assisted with the weekly collections. She was a dedicated volunteer for the babies in the NICU at Crouse Hospital and could be found folding and sorting clothes at the Rescue Mission. Lorna consistently supported many charitable organizations. She was always willing to make a donation to a worthy cause. Some of her favorites include the Food Bank of CNY and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Lorna was predeceased by her loving husband, James O’Toole, her parents Dorothy and Leo Caveney, her sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Joseph Scarcelli and her niece Sharon (Scarcelli) Stone.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Anthony Simone, and three generations of beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass in celebration of Lorna’s life will be held Friday, October 30, 2020 at 12:30pm, Holy Family Catholic Church, 127 Chapel Drive Syracuse. Visitation will be held for family and friends prior to the mass from 11:30-12:30pm in the church.
