Myrtle M. Zacharek, age 97, of Lyncourt, died on June 1, 2020 at age 97. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, she moved to Syracuse in 1947, the year of her marriage to her husband, Stephen. Myrtle was a homemaker as well as a secretary at Syracuse University for 17 years. She was a past member of St. Daniel’s Legion of Mary and a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Bishop Grimes, and Lyncourt Seniors. She is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Stephen Peter Zacharek. Surviving are four of her daughters: Elizabeth Kendig (Douglas), Patricia Engelbrecht (Karl), Susan Douglas (William), and Stephanie Zacharek. She is predeceased by her daughter Mary Larkin (Paul). Myrtle also leaves eight grandchildren, Cheryl, Kelly, Maureen, Brian, Colleen, Zachary, Dufferin and Paul, and eight great-grandchildren. And she leaves behind great friends like Nancy, who cared for her with so much love in the last years of her life. Myrtle instilled in her children a sense of curiosity and creativity, a love of beauty and a sense of humor, and she left this world peacefully. Services are private. A mass in her name will be held at a later date.
