Obituary of Lawrence R. Beil

Lawrence R. Beil of Fremont Hills in East Syracuse, born March 20, 1920, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 22, 2013 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. He proudly served in the Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific. He retired from American Optical after 40 years of dedicated service. In his younger days he enjoyed playing golf and bowling with friends, but family always came first. Nothing gave him greater joy than being a loving and caring father and grandfather. He is survived by his life long love and wife of 71 years, Dorothy (Cross); and three children, Kristin (Roger) Kaufman, David (Ok-Cha) Beil, and Karen (Dan) Borchik; and grandchildren, Michelle Kravetz, Karin (Guy) Falcone, Justin (Susan) Borchik, Ryan Borchik, David Borchik, Brenton Beil and Trevor Beil; as well as ten great-grandchildren. Larry was a member of the Socialaires Dance Club, and he and Dorothy enjoyed spending winters at their home in Florida and their many bus trips with their friends, the "In-Betweeners." Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Welter-Price Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be at Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Matthew's Church followed by the burial service at St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association . He had a big heart, a firm handshake, and a smile that could light up a room. He will be missed by all who had the fortune of knowing him.
