Louis R. Roder Jr. age 72 of Cicero, formerly of East Syracuse passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 after a heroic fight against a Glioblastoma brain tumor diagnosed in June 2017. He was a graduate of ESM High School and of Onondaga Community College. Louis served in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade from 1969 to 70 and did his basic training at Fort Dix, NJ. He served with the US Army in Vietnam where he received a purple heart and a Combat Infantry badge. Louis was selected to participate in Honor Flight Mission 14 this past September. It was an opportunity that he spoke very fondly of. He worked for many years as a Mechanical Designer for various area industries, retiring from Lamson Corporation after 23 years. In his free time Louis enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending races at Oswego Speedway and woodworking. He loved making gifts for his friends and family. Louis also was a member of the Bridgeport Rod & Gun Club and held a lifetime membership at North Sportsmen Rod & Gun Club where he enjoyed shooting trap with his friends, son and two of his grandchildren. The highlight of his summers was time spent at his summer home in Swan Bay on the St Lawrence River. He enjoyed boating, campfires and spending time with family and friends. He looked forward to his dinners at his favorite restaurant JK’s Roadhouse. Louis was predeceased by his parents Louis Sr and Elizabeth (Myrto) Roder, his mother and father in law Russell and Jane Allen, brother in law Russell G. Allen, niece Stephanie Allen and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Louis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen (Allen) Roder, son Timothy (Jennifer) Roder and a daughter, Amy (Richard) Daley. He is also survived by the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Timothy Roder Jr., Anna Jolie Roder, Nicholas Daley and Colin Daley to cherish his memory. He also leaves behind three step grandchildren, David, Samantha and Celia Barley along with a sister in law, three brothers in law and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Elderwood Liverpool for the care of our loved one.
