Obituary of Rita A. Pastuf

Rita A. (Reschke) Pastuf , 99, of East Syracuse passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Rita was born in Syracuse to the late Charles and Mary Reschke. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, John Pastuf; a brother Charles Reschke; and sisters: Leona Burgett, Armela Hendry, Catherine Hollembaek, and Marion Amsdell. Rita was employed by the IRS before marrying John in 1946 and opening Pastuf Hardware and Lock Company in Eastwood. Rita later went to work in the Office of Alumni and Development at LeMoyne College, retiring in 1983. Rita joined a ladies golf league where she made many close friends. She was an avid Yankee and SU sports fan. Rita loved to read, do jigsaw puzzles and travel to Florida and the 1000 Islands. Rita was so loving and outgoing that she made friends wherever she went. But most important to Rita was her great love for her family, and spending time with them. Survived by her three children: Lt. Col. John Pastuf, Marianne (Jonathan) Burdick, and Daniel (Wendy) Pastuf; five grandchildren: Daryn (Jennnifer) Pastuf, Daniel (Bridgette) Burdick, Jeffrey (Melanie) Burdick, DJ Pastuf and Emily Pastuf; two great granddaughters: Keira and Kennedy Burdick; several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 8:15 a.m. Friday at Goddard-Crandall- Shepardson Funeral Home and 9 am at Saint Matthew’s Church. Burial is in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 Thursday at the funeral home, 3111 James St. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
