Joseph A. Fillip, 85, of Syracuse, New York, died peacefully on December 29, 2019. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 5, 1934 to Joseph G. and Margaret A. Fillip, respectively of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Glasgow Scotland. He is a 1948 graduate of Holy Innocents School and a 1952 graduate of Langley High School in Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Army's 5th Infantry Division near Augsburg, Germany from 1953 to 1955. Upon his return to the U.S., he married the love of his life, Mary Collins Fillip. While working and raising a family, he put himself though college, graduating from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in 1962. He then embarked upon a distinguished career in accounting and finance that took him from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Buffalo, New York. He loved history, gardening, music, and, most of all, his family. In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his sister Margaret Kimberling of Pittsburgh, sons Joseph Jr. (Alexandra Kendrick), Kevin, and Christopher (Carol Harasty), daughters Lynn (Paul Hendry), Maribeth (Seamus O'Hara) and Sheila (Ross Gordon), and nine granddaughters. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James Street. Burial will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.
