John M. Macri, 87, passed away Tuesday at home. John was a life resident of Syracuse. He served with the US Navy during WWII. He joined the Syracuse Fire Department in 1952, where he served proudly for 21 years. He was awarded the Hendricks Medal of Honor in 1960 and retired as a Lieutenant in 1972. In addition to being a firefighter, John worked several trades throughout his life. He once owned Teall Market and Kool-It Ice Cream. He was a registered NYS Auto Dealer and owned Station Motors. He co-owned Syracuse Auto Body where he was a body & fender specialist. He also worked in real estate, owning many area rental properties. John enjoyed socializing with friends and had belonged to several organizations including IAFF, BPOE Elks and most recently the Italian Americans Club. He was also a member of Lake Shore Yacht and Country Club and WA-NOA Golf Club where he enjoyed playing golf. A beloved and respected husband and father, John's dedication to his family made possible many wonderful memories. With the special care given by his son Mark, John was able to spend the remainder of his life in the comfort of his home. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Ginny and grandson Eric. John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Rosemary; his children: John Jr. (Terri), Mark, Joan Lichinsky, Jimmy (Lori), Richard and Mary Jo all of Syracuse; Ted (Karen) of TN; Melanie and Jeremy also of Syracuse, 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral mass will be held at 12pm on Monday in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3-6pm in Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James Street. Contribution may be made to Blessed Sacrament Outreach Program, 3127 James Street, Syracuse, NY.
