Obituary of Leon S. Mazur

Leon S. Mazur, 92, of Syracuse, died on Monday, March 4th at home.  Leon served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Campaign during WW2.  Shortly after the war and his marriage to Genevieve, he began a long career at General Electric, retiring after 35 years.  He was a long time communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.  Other activities included being a member of the American Legion Post 1276 and a former president of the Henninger HS Athletic Booster Club. 
Leon enjoyed woodworking and was a master craftsman building a reputation among his grandchildren that he could fix anything that was broken.  He had a large and loving family whom he cherished.  He especially loved sharing a Christmas birthday with Noelle, his granddaughter and Hannah, his great granddaughter. 
He was pre-deceased by his parents Frank and Catherine Mazur; daughter Mary; brothers: Alfred, Joseph and sister Christine Mazur.  He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Genevieve (Borys) Mazur; sons: Leon T. (Sheila) of Liverpool, Thomas (Valerie) of Riverview, FL, James (Lisa) of Syracuse, Paul (Hildy) of Lexington, MA; a daughter: Nancy (Michael) Lohwater of Rochester; brothers: Francis of Tuscon, AZ, Lawrence of Amsterdam; sisters: Rita Smith of Canastota, Patricia Gajewski of Schenectady, Clara Macuirles of Fairfield, PA; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Friday from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home.  Funeral services are Saturday at 9:30 at the funeral home and at 10am in Blessed Sacrament Church.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. 
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
