Alfred (Al) Ditch passed away on June 5, 2018 at St. Joseph's hospital in Syracuse, NY.  A man of few words, but so many actions … who always tried to encourage with good deeds, unspoken words & Love. Al was born on September30, 1927 in Syracuse.  He was a graduate of St. Mary's school for the deaf in Buffalo and Percy Hughes (school for the handicapped) in Syracuse.  Al attended and was a long-time member of First English Lutheran church prior to its closing. Al is predeceased by his wife Vera, his parents, Stanley & Victoria (Kloc), and brother Stanley.
In 1950, Vera Walrath became his wife and they were blessed with four children, Allen (Andrew Augustine), Carol (Steven Bennett), Kevin (former - Susan Frank and former Lisa Carr), and Vanessa (James Littles), 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way) and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his favorite sister Victoria Cole and brother Robert Ditch.
He was a retired machinist from Lamson Corporation; and was & did his best to be a good husband, Dad, caregiver, bread-winner, fixer, neighbor & friend. He was also a professional photographer for Varden Stuidos. Alfred's greatest way of communicating was through the many pictures & movies he knew would forever make us smile. He enjoyed cheering for SU teams, gardening, old movies, spending summers at Brennan's Beach, and most of all his family.
Calling hours will be held on June 9th from 10am to 12:30 at the Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home, 1217 North Salina St (near Court St) with a celebration of his life at 12:30pm, and burial at West Monroe Cemetery to follow.
