Obituary of Ruth M. Swanson

Ruth M. Swanson, 84, of Liverpool, passed away Friday morning, August 24, surrounded by family. Ruth was born June 28, 1928 in Syracuse, and was the daughter of the late Alfred and Marie Monarski and sister to the late John "Jack" Monarski. Ruth dedicated her life to bringing joy and comfort to people around her. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She maintained many life-long friendships including the 'Club Girls' from North High, was charitable to others, and was a devout Catholic. Ruth worked as a secretary for General Electric for several years and later as a secretary in the Superintendent's office for the Syracuse School District. Following retirement, Ruth was a dedicated volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital, and a member of the Springmoor Red Hats. Ruth is survived by her husband Marvin of 62 years, and five children and their spouses: Stephen and Patricia of West Hurley, NY; David and Miriam of Camillus, NY; William and Barbara of Walnut Creek, CA; Donald and Nancy of Trumansburg, NY; and MaryBeth and Drew Culp of Apalachin, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher, Victoria, Michelle, Tyler, Jesse, Kevin, Sarah, and Jayden, and many nieces and nephews. Her family is grateful to the staff at Menorah Park Terrace Unit for the care and compassion they provided to Ruth during her final days. Calling hours will be Sunday, August 26 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Frasier-Shepardson-Funeral Home, 1217 North Salina Street, Syracuse. Services will be held Monday, August 27 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1001 Tulip Street, Liverpool. Following a Christian burial mass, Ruth will be intered at St. Mary's Mausoleum, on E. Genesee Street, DeWitt. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent in Ruth's memory to St. Francis Social Adult Day Care, 1108 Court Street, Syracuse, NY 13208.
