Oh, Dave... I'm so sorry :(
To the family, and Chris, I'm Sheena, one of Dave's drum students from way back in the day.
He was so professional, and so awesome to me, teaching me what I needed to know to play out nearly immediately (it was the days of punk, after all), and although he tried to teach me conventionally (rudiments and such), I never really took to it, learning in my own punk way, yet influenced heavily by Dave. He was able to teach me plenty in order to play out in bands.
I managed to learn enough to play successfully in many bands throughout the years, and most of what I learned, what I did, how I played, and *that* I played... who I was, my persona entirely, was because of Dave and my devotion to him as my teacher and mentor.
I shall miss him utterly. I am so grateful to the internet that we were able to reconnect once more before he passed, and I was able to express my utmost gratitude to him personally.
Forever and ever, in the ether, in the Rock'n'Roll Heaven, Dave... many blessings <3

I knew Dave to be a humble, hard working, thoughtful person who went about his business without fanfare or need for special recognition. His quiet demeanor could not disguise his obvious intelligence and personal integrity. He will obviously be missed. Even by those who never knew him. It is the Dave Read's of the world who make it a better place for all.

Condolences to Dave’s family. I remember Dave from way back in high school and beyond. We last spoke about 9 years ago at a wedding and as usual he made me laugh (making fun of the groom, but not in a mean way). This good hearted, talented, kind guy will be missed by many.

To the Reed Family. Dave was like my big brother. Playing in bands with my brother Don for many years. He was one of my first drum teachers. He was always my favorite drummer because of his laid back nature. Dave never missed a beat and he always seemed to be having FUN! May you rest in peace my brother.

My Uncle David was one of my 2 Cuse uncles. As with my father and Uncle Bob, he was influential in helping me learn what it was to be a man. I always noticed him as hardworking, a great father, and a great Uncle. I spent a good amount of time with him growing up, staying the night at his house with my cousin Jeff. His favorite football team is my favorite football team, shows he loves are now shows I love. I always thought him and my father were very similar, in attitude, looks, and in their sense of humor. I remember his infectious laugh and seeing him with his siblings was always entertaining, even at a young age when I barely knew what they were joking about( I know now ). He always kept in touch with me through Facebook, asking how Im doing, wishing me a happy birthday, asking about mom and dad, congratulating me on the birth of my daughter, etcetera. Im going to miss having those conversations with him, and Im going to miss him. Rest In Peace Uncle David, I love you.
