Obituary of Thomas J. Pendergast

Thomas J. Pendergast, 90, passed away on Thursday, July 26. He was born in Albany, NY on November 26, 1921, and resided in Syracuse for most of his life. Thomas was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and served during WWII and the Korean Conflict, retiring as a Major. He worked for various insurance companies and taught insurance courses at Onondaga Community College. He later worked at Merchant's Bank, retiring from the Loan Office Department in 1990. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and an active member of the DeWitt Rotary Club. He enjoyed 15 years of ushering at the Carrier Dome, but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thomas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Thacker) Pendergast; his sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Lori Pendergast of Chittenango, David and Peggie Pendergast of Manlius, Timothy and Leslie Pendergast of South Windsor, CT, and Kevin and Nancy Pendergast of Shoreham, NY; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Amy) Pendergast, Amy (Chris) Brennan, Lindsay Pendergast, Kelley Pendergast, Samuel (Karol) Galvagno, Daniel Galvagno, Gregory Pendergast, Taylor Pendergast, Lia Pendergast, Mackenzie Pendergast, and Kyle Pendergast; great-grandchildren, Tommy, Cooper, and Tanner Pendergast, Owen Brennan, and Aryanna Galvagno. We would like to thank the staff at Eldercare, and especially to the Crouse Hospital ER staff for their kindness. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 am in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street.
