Obituary of Florence G. Taylor

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florence G. Taylor August 8, 2016 This past weekend the Lord called back into His loving embrace the matriarch of our family. Affectionately know as Mom, Flo, Mrs. T, and Nana, she passed peacefully surrounded by her family. Florence was pre-deceased by her husband, Richard Sr., and her son, Richard Jr. Florence began her life during the roaring 20's and because of her love for dancing as a young girl, she received the moniker “Tin Hips Flossie.” Her teenage years were impacted by the Great Depression and she learned early in her life what it meant to live with little and the importance of a close knit family caring for each other. She became a “war bride” in 1942 as she began her marriage with the love of her life, a dashing, young 2nd Lieutenant she would spend 36 wonderful years with. Toward war’s end they began raising a family with Richard Jr, Geraldine (John) York, Paul (Susan) and David (Debra). In 1952, they made the move that would so impact our lives as they left New Jersey and made Syracuse our home to this day. After receiving her registered nursing certification, she began a career as a neonatal intensive care nurse. The last 47 years in service to our community working at St. Joseph’s Hospital. During those nearly 5 decades, every day she went to work, she held in her hands the most precious, fragile little babies and fought tirelessly to help them survive and flourish. Having served her fellow man so wonderfully, the Lord blessed her with a healthy life, long enough to see her children prosper, her 11 grandchildren prosper, and recently holding in those same hands the youngest of her 23 great grandchildren. As time goes by, the pain of her passing will fade and the memories of this special woman will be filled with tales of joy and laughter. Thank you Mom, Flo, Mrs. T, and Nana for all that you were and all that we have become. You will forever be in our thoughts and actions. P.S. Hope the tea is hot and plentiful! A funeral mass will be held on Monday at 11AM in St. Ann’s Church in Manlius with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt.
