Sam Russo July 30, 2016 Sam Russo, 83, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital following a brief illness. Sam was born in Syracuse, NY on February 26, 1933, the son of James Russo and France's D’attalo Russo. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, Sam graduated from Vocational High School, was a four year U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the USS McCafferay, where he was an EM3, and a Navy reservist for four years. He retired in 1994 after 30 years as a union electrician and member of IBEW local 43. Sam loved sports, participating in golf, bowling, and softball in his younger years. He enjoyed watching every game of his beloved New York Yankees. Sam was predeceased by his sisters Mary Bova, Anna Quinto, and Fanny Militi and two brothers Steve and Charles. Surviving are his daughter Susan Alexander, twins Samuel Russo and Pamela Russo, wife Reta Russo, sister Josephine Spoto, brother Paul, twin James, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at noon at Blessed Sacrament Church in Eastwood. Sam will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt.
