Obituary of Helen Kathryn Angarano

Helen K. (Macheda) Angarano passed away unexpectedly at James Square on October 22, 2011. She was a life resident of Syracuse, residing in Eastwood for the past 78 years. Helen graduated from North High School in 1937 and Syracuse Normal School in 1940. She worked at Smith- Corona during World War Two and then worked for Porter Cable, Upstate University Hospital, and retired from Lemoyne College. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Pasquale "Red" in 2001. Helen and Red kept beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed trips to Arizona and trips to the casino. Helen loved cooking, baking, knitting (creating over 20 afghans) and reading historical books. She especially loved family gatherings during the holidays. She was also pre-deceased by her mother Carmella, her brothers: Bennie and Andy, her sister Pauline Demore and a great granddaughter. She is survived by her children: Maureen (Dominick) Conte of Virginia, Melanie (Michael) Esposito of New Jersey, Paul (Debra) and Patrick (Suzanne) both of Syracuse; 8 grandchildren: Patricia (Brian), Paul (Melanie), Joseph (Peggy), Jennifer, Dan all of Syracuse, Adrienne (James) Wood of Virginia, Elizabeth (Chris) Haskins of Maryland, Suzanne Conte of Virginia; 9 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Antoinette Stanton of Montana, Mary Seeley and her brother James Macheda both of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to her loving care givers, her nieces JoAnne Straight and DeeDee Macheda, and Mary and Carol. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 9am in the Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in Woodlawn Mausoleum. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson funeral home, 3111 James Street. Memorial contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue, Syracuse 13208.
