Obituary of David F. Hildenbrand

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David F. Hildenbrand, 59, of Syracuse, died on Sunday at his home. He was a graduate of CBA and OCC. David had retired on December 31, 2015 after 38 years with the Onondaga County Sheriffs Office and received the Distinguished Service Award in 2014. He particularly enjoyed working in the Behavioral Health Unit, marching with his fellow Deputies every year in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and placing flags on the graves of deceased officers on Memorial Day. Dave enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the Paine Branch Library and was known for his great generosity with family and friends. As a longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Dave volunteered as a funeral mass server for many years. Upstate Medical University will benefit from Dave’s generosity; his wish was for others to study and benefit from his anatomical donation. He was pre-deceased by his parents: Hon. Leon M. and Kathryn Hildenbrand and his in-laws: Jack and Barbara McCormick. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara; a brother Dr. Peter (Kathy) of Lexington, MA; brother-in-law: Bill (Vicki) McCormick of Albany; sisters-in-law: Mary (Robert) Maynard of Berryville, VA, Cheryl (Joseph) Liberatore of Chesapeake, VA; nephews Jeff & Brett Hildenbrand, Daniel Maynard, John (Cynthia) McCormick; nieces: Sheila (Will) Shriver, Rebecca Maynard, Erin (Stephen) DeBoer, Kara (John) Bonvillian, Leah McCormick; several cousins and 6 grand nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3-6pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament School, 3127 James St, Syracuse 13206 or the ALS Association of CNY, 890 Seventh North Street, Ste. 108, Liverpool 13088.
