Obituary of Joseph A. McNamara

Joseph A. “Red” McNamara, 81, of Syracuse, died on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was a life long resident of Syracuse and the son of Lawrence and Ethel (Roberts) McNamara. Mr. McNamara served with the 7th Calvary Division in the US Army during the Korean War. He had retired after 38 years with Carrier Corporation. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and the Men’s Fellowship, the Pulaski Post American Legion, and the Carrier Retirees Association. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, spending time with his family and his daily cup of coffee from McDonald’s. His son Andy died in 2012. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Emma M. (Castor) McNamara; sons: Joseph (Eileen) of Virginia, James (Nancy) of Nevada; daughters: Amy (Robert) Brisson of Baldwinsville, Janice McNamara of East Syracuse; brothers: Eddie of Arizona, Stephen and David of Syracuse; sisters: Margaret Faulkner of Syracuse, Christine Kelly of Florida, Judy McNamara of Syracuse; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11am in the Eastwood Baptist Church with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James St. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Eastwood Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 3212 James Street, Syracuse 13206.
