Obituary of Harriette Stella Bonfe

Harriette Stella (Trach) Bonfe passed away unexpectedly on September 26th at home on Onondaga Hill. Loved by many and all that knew her, Stella dedicated her entire life to serving and caring for others. Devoting special energy to everything she did, including past volunteer work at Francis House. It is no doubt that she leaves this world much better than she found it. Stella, as she was known to all, was a life-long resident of Syracuse. She was a graduate of the St. Joseph School of Nursing and the first Nursing Program Curriculum associated with LeMoyne College (1954) and continued her professional education until her retirement as Nurse Practitioner at the Syracuse Developmental Center (SDC) after 21 years. While she was employed by SDC, Stella was nominated for the New York State Nurses Association as "Nurse of Distinction" for her outstanding contributions. She was born on December 20, 1932, to William Trach Sr. and Frances Sklarczyk. Stella was pre-deceased by brothers: John and Walter Trach; a brother-in-law James Lucia and sisters-in-law Marilyn Trach and Barbara Bonfe. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Samuel A. Bonfe Sr.; children: Paula (Anurag) Gupta of Las Vegas, Sam Jr. (Beth) of Fairhope, AL, Ann (Tony) Case of Folcroft, PA, Brenda (Rocco) D'Angelo of Parma, NY, Albert(Joanne) of Syracuse, Patricia (Barry) Darling of Tully; siblings: Barbara Lucia of Syracuse, Suzanne (Catalina) Mendoza of Parkersburg, WV, Katherine Trach of Syracuse, William Trach of Baldwinsville; brothers-in-law: Albert Bonfe, Gregory (Suzanne) Bonfe both of Tampa, FL; 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 30, from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 1, at 10am in St. Michael's Church on Onondaga Hill.
