Shirley Ruth Coggeshall joined her loving husband and parents when her spirit ascended Saturday, August 22 at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, New York. Born in Waterville, New York on January 13, 1932 Shirley excelled in primary school, where she played the clarinet and was nicknamed "Sea Biscuit" because of her excellent performance on the basketball team. Upon finishing high school, Shirley attended nursing school at Saint Luke's Memorial Hospital in Utica. Her keen skills were required at Syracuse General as a surgical nurse. When her husband's career required more traveling, she worked as a school nurse at Henninger High School for over 20 years. Her door was never closed to students or faculty: she loved her Henninger family. Shirley was preceded by her husband David Coggeshall. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Bentley(Robert Bentley); her cherished grandchildren: David, Kristin, Robert, Megan, and Nicholas; her great-grandchildren: Caylee, Anabel, Zachary, Caitlyn, Lia, Liv; her beloved sister, Gail LaFayette; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews; cousin. Shirley loved to complete puzzles, word jumbles, watch game shows, and SU basketball with all of her family members. Her Christian values have always been expressed by the way she has treated others throughout her lifetime. Selfless and genuine will be how she is remembered by her family and many wonderful friends that aided her in her final months. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street. A service will be held at 7pm on Thursday. Contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
