Mary K. Gilchriest, 85, died on Sunday at her home after a long illness. She was a Third Order Franciscan and a member of the Legion of Mary. Mrs. Gilchriest was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a long time Eucharistic Minister for the shut ins. She was pre-deceased by her husband John, her daughter Bernadette Gilchriest Penoyer and her brothers: Joe, Jim, and Donald Brady. She is survived by her 5 sons: Timothy, Paul (Colleen), John, Peter (Terri), James (Julie); 6 daughters: Dorothy (Eric) Hollyoak, Diane Gilchriest, Beth Gilchriest, Regina Gilchriest, Rita Boskovski, Mary Alice (Jim) Oaksford; 3 sisters: Sr. Rita Frances G.N.S.H., Helen Brady, Donna Shelters; grandchildren: Paul, John, Ryan, Jason Hollyoak, Daniel Gilchriest, Michael, Katherine, John, Veronica Penoyer, Patrick, Kevin, Andrew, Michael Gilchriest, Jacob, Ian, Nathan Gilchriest, Matthew, Peter Gilchriest, Philip, Joseph, Luke Boskovski, Kelsey, Zachary Gilchriest, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Hannah, Nicholas Zimmer; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 at the Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-8pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street, Syracuse. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY.
