Obituary of William C. Britton

William C. Britton of Baldwinsville, died July 30 at the Veterans Hospital in Syracuse. He was born on October 20, 1928. His parents were Harry and Celia VanBenthuysen Britton. Bill served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean war in Newfoundland. He was a retired salesman from Central Music and called on several schools in the area. He formerly worked for DeSantis Music and Crouse-Hinds Company. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in the Baldwinsville area. Bill was a professional musician for more than 40 years and was a highly acclaimed trumpet player. He was also gifted with valve trombone and piano. He enjoyed dancing with his wife Joanne, music concerts, swimming and socializing with his friends at the North Area YMCA, and many years of boating. He treasured times he spent camping on Lake Ontario with his family throughout the years, and all the trips he and Joanne took with grandson Denny during his growing up years. Times spent with his family and family pets were always close to his heart. His family includes his loving wife of nearly 30 years Joanne; son William Christopher Britton of Syracuse; daughter Barbara (Karl) Vogel of Wynantskill; stepson Scott Dennis, stepdaughter Mary (Geoff) Swanson; grandson Dennis Swanson; brother Paul Britton all of Syracuse. He was predeceased by his late wife Catherine Lesneski Britton; sisters Louise Howe and Jeanette Bridge. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine's Church, O'Brien Road, Baldwinsville at 10 am. Thursday Aug. 6. Calling hours will take place at Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Area YMCA or Alzheimers Association or St. Augustine's Church. Bill (husband, dad, stepdad, grandfather and friend to many) will be greatly missed. Our rock on earth is now a jewel in heaven.
