Obituary of Frederick Abdo

Please share a memory of Frederick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On June 23, 2015 we lost a BEST Friend, Business Partner, Papa and Dad in Frederick (Freddy) N. Abdo. He was a life time resident and business owner (Abdo Tile Co.) in Syracuse, NY. Recently celebrating 60 years in self-employment, he was looking forward to spending his days with his grandsons, Nicholas and Isaac. His love, loyalty and respect for family and friends are a constant reminder of what must be truly important out of life. People came first in Freddy's eyes. There was never a day that someone did not make him smile or walk away from a moment with him and say "I am glad we caught up to each other today". His smile and very sarcastic humor were his calling card to anyone that was lucky enough to do business with him. In life, as in work, he was in perpetual motion stopping briefly to take breaks and enjoy special moments. In his office, with scale in hand and blueprints ready, he was in a place sometimes more comfortable than his own home. His business life was a "Game", like a great hand in poker, he was always aware of the risk and focused more on the benefits then the possible loss. He was a survivor, a survivor of many years of heart ache and struggle while tending to his wife (Marion) and love of his life during several years of illness. Those years, like the years to follow, shaped Freddy into the man we all knew and loved. These struggles in his eyes were always just a small reminder of how precious life was and is. "Never Quit on Life or People" and remember, do what you do for others because you love and respect them not because you're looking for a "Thank You". In loving memory of a BEST Friend, Papa and Dad. You will be forever in our hearts. He was pre-deceased by his parents: Nick and Hazel Abdo; his wife Marion; brother Robert; and sister Eleanor Orcutt. He is survived by his son David; 4 sisters: Gladys Mauvedi, Viv Hand, Evon DeRoberts, Sandra Balstrom; grandsons: Nicholas Marion Abdo and Isaac Robinson Abdo; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30am in St. Elias Orthodox Church with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street. Contributions may be made to St. Elias Orthodox Church or Van Duyn Home and Hospital.
