Gilda (Colella) Amato, 90, formerly of Syracuse, died on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Little Flower Senior Living Center in Charlotte, NC. She retired from Syracuse University Book Store in 1985 after 22 years. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Assumption Church Golden Agers, and McChesney Park Recreation Club. She was a volunteer for the St. Joseph Hospital Cardiac Care Unit and the Blessed Sacrament Church Outreach Program. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert D. Amato and brothers: Anthony Colella, Dominick Colella, and Harry Colella. She is survived by a daughter: Marlene A. (Amato) Bimson (Leslie) of Indian Trail, NC; a son: Robert M. Amato (Virginia) of Syracuse; 1 brother, Joseph Colella (Beverly) of Charlotte, NC, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In spring 2006 Gilda moved to Indian Trail, NC. While living there she became very active at St. Luke Catholic Church in Mint Hill, NC participating in Hope, Young at Heart and several other groups. Although she most recently lived at The Little Flower Senior Living Center in Charlotte, NC she remained active and made many new friends. Funeral services are to be held Saturday, June 13th at 8:30 at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home followed by Mass at 9AM in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Chapel of St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
