Jeanette, you were such a crack-up in high school. I remember you as the shortest one in our class, sitting at your desk, swinging your legs because they didn't reach the floor. Like many of the other girls our age, you peroxided your bangs trying to make them blond. You were at the front of the trend. One of my best memories is of that slumber party at your parents' empty rental home in Eastwood. Nobody "slumbered" that winter night as nearly the entire crowd of junior and senior girls collided through the empty house. Cheryl Eischen led us in the limbo under one of those pull-down lamps in the dining room. We sneaked cigarettes in the bathroom. (No names, please!) We had wall-to-wall sleeping bags. Junk food reigned supreme. We made enough noise to wake the neighborhood. And we told tall tales about the guys we were dating. I ended up sleeping on a bay windowsill. Others were scattered on the stairs, in the bathtub, and in the closets. Your Mom was horrified to find how many teenage girls were crammed into that house. "I thought you said you were having only 15 or 16 friends!" she exclaimed the next day. And you said, "No, Mom. I said 50 or 60."
That was you, Jeanette. The leader of the pack. I'm glad we had a chance to reconnect at our 50th class reunion. You will be missed.
