Raymond D. Solberg, 87, of Syracuse, died at his home on Wednesday. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served on an oil tanker in the Persian Gulf. Ray was the owner of Syracuse Square Electric and had formerly worked at Borden's Ice Cream from 1960-1966 and Solberg Electric. He had been a Mason for over 55 years and was a member of the Mad River Club. Ray enjoyed hunting, wood working, refinishing antiques, cross country skiing, boiling maple syrup and had a passion for music and sang in a Barber Shop Quartet. He spent a lot of time at his camp in Redfield, NY. Ray was pre-deceased by his wife Margaret, and sons David and Donald. He is survived by his son Erik W. (Kyle M.) of Kirkville; daughter Karen Solberg of Syracuse; daughter-in-law Belinda Solberg of Burdett, NY; grandchildren: Savannah Raye, Erika Marie and Donny Solberg; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-6pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. Services and burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mad River Club, PO Box 171, Pulaski, NY 13142.
