Obituary of Virginia L. Brunet

Please share a memory of Virginia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Virginia Louise "Ginny" Brunet, 91, of Syracuse, died at her home with her prince at her side on Tuesday morning. She was the valedictorian of Assumption High School class of 1940. She married the love of her life on September 22, 1945, upon Raymond's return from serving in the U.S. Navy's Blue Raiders Squadron during WWII. Virginia gave birth to her son Harold in 1946 and proceeded to have 6 more children that she raised with unconditional love. Virginia had worked for Loblaws and Maria Regina College. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at Assumption Church, was active with L'Arche Syracuse and A.R.C., and was active with the Camp Fire Girls. Virginia loved spending her summers at the family cottage on Otisco Lake, spending her time swimming, canoeing and taking care of her family. Mrs.B absorbed many of her children's friends into the fabric of her life, and her home was like second home to many. Virginia was predeceased by her brother Harold, in 1937, and her loving son Kenneth in 2014. She is survived by her husband Raymond J.; 4 sons: Harold R., Kevin P. both of Syracuse, Michael C. (Cheryl) of Otisco, Martin L. (Laura) of Fayetteville; 2 daughters: Kathleen M. (Jasiu) Szewczyk of Howlett Hill, Janice L. (Robert) Burke of Tully; a sister: Sr. Mary Harold Braungart of North Syracuse; 12 grandchildren: Rosie (Sean) Kelly, Casia (Matt) Kyle, Jonathan Szewczyk; Melissa, Jesse Ray, and Christopher Burke; Lief, Colby, Mallory, Eli, Stephanie, and Julien Brunet; 2 great-grandchildren: Caleb and Cecelia Kyle; and many nieces and nephews. Virginia's family would like to thank the dedicated staff of PACE of CNY, her caretakers and especially her loving and devoted friend and care giver Cathy Shambry, whom we consider part of the family. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am Saturday in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are 4:00 - 8:00 pm Friday at the funeral home, 3111 James Street, Syracuse. Contributions may be made to L'Arche Syracuse or to the Sisters of St. Francis.
