Obituary of Ruth Anne Babikian

Ruth Anne Babikian, 66, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, February 22nd, with her husband by her side. Born on August 4, 1944, Ruth was the daughter of Bessie Mitchell and the late Willard MacKinder. Ruth was a graduate of St. Vincent DePaul High School and received her Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Education and Science from SUNY Oswego. While attending SUNY Oswego, she formed many close friendships with her Arethusa sorority sisters who will always remain near and dear to her heart. She served as an elementary school teacher for 32 years in North Syracuse Central School District. She was a union steward for the NSEA and had officiated at amateur swimming events. Ruth was an avid communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a past president of the Altar and Rosary Society. Ruth Anne received the Blessed Sacrament Volunteer of the Year Award for her dedicated and longstanding service to her Church and her God. In her leisure time, she enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening, traveling and reading. Ruth dedicated her life to her family, her church and her friends. All who knew her could not help but admire her strength and inner caring and concern for others. She touched their lives in a way that will remain in their spirit forever. She truly loved and was loved by all. Her grandchildren will always have a special place in their hearts to the grandmother who devoted endless hours to their care and nurturing. She married her husband, Mihran, on July 4, 1973. She is also survived by her mother, Bessie Mitchell; two devoted sons: David (Francine), Mark (Erin) all of Dewitt; her beloved grandchildren: Katelyn Killoran, Isabella, Drew, Ryan and Ailey Babikian; several nieces, nephews and cousins including Mary Ann Craig and Beverly Houser both of Syracuse. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James St. Funeral Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:30 am on Monday, February 28th. The family would like to thank the staff at Loretto and the nurses at Crouse Hospital for the care provided to Ruth this past year.
