George Branca, 97, of Syracuse, died on Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the first class of Our Lady of Pompeii Elementary School; a graduate of St. John the Baptist Academy and a long time communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the their Color Guard. Mr. Branca was also a member of the American Legion in East Syracuse. George and his brother Carmen were a fixture on the North Side with their barbershop spanning 40 years. He was pre-deceased by his wife Margaret. He is survived by sons Christopher (Zoe) and Jeffrey both of Florida; granddaughters: Samantha and Zabrina; a sister in law and close friend Sally Yarwood; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 10am in St. John the Baptist Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 9-10am in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities, 6900 Buckley Road, North Syracuse 13212.
