Obituary of Frederick Joseph Liberty

Frederick Joseph Liberty, 84, of Syracuse, died on Sunday at the VA Medical Center. Mr. Liberty was a wood worker, who made cabinets and homes; including his own house. He was a Marine Corps Veteran from 1948-52. He received the Purple Heart while serving in Korea and was active in the Inchon Invasion. After his service in the Marines, Mr. Liberty served with the US Air Force in the 108th Medical Unit and then transferred to the 174th Fighter Wing at Hancock Air Field; where he served in the motor pool. During the Vietnam War, Mr. Liberty worked as a X-Ray technician for the Draft Board. He retired from his military career as a Master Sergeant in 1990. Mr. Liberty was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, a life member of the 174th Alumni Association and the Eastwood Senior Citizens Center. He also participated with the Pairs & Squares and North Syracuse Square Dancing Club for 45 years. He was a proud donor of over 15 gallons of blood at the American Red Cross. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 59 years, Anna, and sister Margaret Snyder. He is survived by his 3 sons: Paul (Janet Lynn), Mark (Susan), David (Randy) Liberty; 2 daughters: Irene (Dana John Mills) Liberty, Helen (Kenneth) Taite; 10 grandchildren: Benjamin, Vincent, Victor, Erik, Daniel, Robert, Joseph, Rachel (Ricardo), Jenika, Cole; 2 great grandchildren: Nathan and Maximilian; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 4 at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial with Military Honors to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Calling hours are Tuesday, September 2 from 5-8pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street.
