Obituary of Marilyn Y. Sims

Marilyn Y. Sims, 81, of The Cunningham, died on Monday at University Hospital. Her parents were Carl A.and Hazel Walliser Young. Mrs. Sims was a graduate of Syracuse University and a member and volunteered with Delta Gamma Sorority. She had retired from Syracuse Stage, and was past president and a founding member of the Syracuse Stage Guild. Her and her husband helped develop and contribute to the success of the Beaux Arts Ball. She had formerly worked as an accountant for Longley Jones Associates and Reimann Buechner Partnership Landscape Architects. She enjoyed SU Sports and Alumni activities, playing the piano, and volunteering for Syracuse Stage. A tribute was held in her honor, and she was presented with a Life-Time membership and achievement award honoring her efforts with Syracuse Stage. She was also a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was pre-deceased by her husband Raymond W. Sims and her mother Hazel Young Lee. Mrs. Sims is survived by her son Robert R. (Sara) Sims of Liverpool; her daughters: Judith E. Sims of East Syracuse; Susan Carlene (Peter) Malkemes of East Greenich, RI; her brother Wally Young of Florida; 3 grandchildren: Matthew William Sims, Julia Grace and Addie Christina Malkemes; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are Thursday at 11am in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are to be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
