I was not aware of his passing till today after running into a Deaf man at a grocery store. I have not spoke in Charles in ages but I recalled Charles from the 70s to 90s or early 2000s out in the community and in Fayetteville-Manlius area where I used to live and seen Charles in the mall or the stores or whatever and talk. I recalled he earned his Architectural Degree but was happy to work with Stickley Furniture as Craftsman. Always remembered him talking. He was nice to talk to. Sure will miss him. Fond memories.. yeah..

I too have many Charlie stories. I made many calls for Charlie at Stickley whether it be for a car repair or a doctor appointment. He sometimes would get frustrated with me because I couldn't read his awful writing. His hands would start flailing and he would yell at me with sign language. But then the next day bring me flowers. God bless you, Charlie.

I first met Charlie back in the late 1980's. I ran a mobile car tune-up business and he had the son of his landlord call me for an appointment.
When I pushed his door bell, I didn't hear it ring but saw a light inside flash. Charlie then appeared with a big smile, a small pad of paper and a pen. This would be repeated several times in the coming years.
One time when his car wouldn't start we used the front and back side of my invoice communicating by pen. When I finally got it running, Charie took it for a ride and when he came back, he gave me a thumbs-up.
Fixing Charlie's car was sometimes exhausting but because of the lessons I learned, I was lucky he called me.
