Obituary of Maria Lourdes Sahyoun

Maria L. (Eslaimen) Sahyoun, 61, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Havana, Cuba, she moved to the United States in 1961. She received her bachelor's degree from SUNY Cortland and completed graduate work in Foreign Languages Education. Together with her late husband, Maria owned and operated The Frame & Art Gallery in DeWitt, NY for over 20 years. She was also a devoted Spanish language teacher at Jamesville-DeWitt High School for over 20 years where she shared her passion for influencing the lives of others. Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hanna, in September 1998 and her beloved son, Peter, in August 2005. She is survived by her two daughters, Vivianne (Mark) Bolen and Jihanne (Michael) Radzieski all of Flanders, NJ, her sister, Vivianne (Michel) Saba, of DeWitt, nephew, Elias Saba, niece, Suzanne Saba, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Maria was a devoted mother, wife, sister, and aunt. She will be remembered for her grace, her love for others, her wisdom, and her great sense of humor. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 14 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E Genesee St, Dewitt, NY. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maria Sahyoun Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Jean Carter, District Treasurer, Jamesville-Dewitt District Office, PO Box 606, DeWitt, NY 13214.
