Obituary of Paul Edward Vollmer

Paul Edward Vollmer March 1, 2014 Paul Edward Vollmer, 82, died on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Crouse Hospital. He was a 1950 graduate of St. Lucy's Academy. Paul retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years and was an Air Force veteran who served in the Korean Conflict. While stationed at Brooks A.F.B. in Texas, he flew as a crew member aboard several different types of aircraft. He was past Commander of Valley Legion Post 1468 and a current member of the East Syracuse Post 359, VFW Post 9596 and "Mosquito Assn" (Korean War Assn). Paul was an avid SU basketball and football fan. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and bowling. Vacations were spent many years in Cape Vincent, NY and Clearwater, FL. Paul is survived by his wife of 34 years, the former Rita Shanahan; a son, Paul (Maureen), daughters: Linda (Chris) Coolican and Susan (Brian) McGinn; stepsons: Michael (April) Orcutt, Kevin Orcutt, and Sean Orcutt; stepdaughters: Nancy (Paul) Mizer, Melinda Roberts; a sister, Arlene Hyland; a sister-in-law, Mary Vollmer; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grand children. Paul was predeceased by his parents Otto and Mary Vollmer, a sister, Marian; and a brother, Raymond. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James Street. Friends may greet the family after the mass in the church.
