Obituary of Mark S. White
Mark Stephen White, 57, gently left this world, on November 8, 2024 surrounded by family members while in the loving care of the Francis House Center.
Mark was born on October 24, 1967 to Bob & Ginnie White and was the youngest of 11 children. He resided in Eastwood for the first 37 years of his life. He spent those years introducing himself to all the local businesses and residents while exploring the neighborhood on his frequent walks and bike rides. He graduated from Henniger High School in 1988 and was employed for many years at area restaurants and grocery stores. Mark was a communicant at Blessed Sacrament Church and relished his time spent there as an altar boy and usher. He was also on the Board of the Diocesan Office for Persons with Disabilities. He was a fan of music, dancing, golf, bowling, Musicals (the Phantom of the Opera, Annie and The Sound of Music were favorites), holidays, birthdays, the State Fair, SU and the American flag/USA! Mark was known as the unofficial “Mayor of Eastwood”, as he always inserted himself in the annual Memorial Day Parade, waving his flags, smiling and greeting all as a local celebrity! Mark had a knack of sharing his heartfelt warmth, cheery hello, laugh and smile with all. Everyone was a friend to him.
The next chapter for Mark was spent under the care of the Arc of Onondaga where he continued living his best life! He became a season ticket holder to cheer on his beloved SU basketball teams, participated in Red House Theater productions, bowled weekly in the Saturday Go-Getters Bowling Program at Flamingo Bowl, went to WWW Wrestling events, traveled around the country, including Connecticut, Maine, Las Vegas and many other places.
Mark resided for 19 years with his longtime buddies at the Dorchester Group Home and they became best friends! Many stories and adventures were created and shared with these guys! In his final year and a half, he retired from work and moved to the Diffin Road Group Home. Mark received exceptional care by staff at both homes and got to follow his dreams and live life to his fullest.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Bob & Ginnie White, his brothers John and Tom and sister-in-law, Joan White.
He is survived by his brothers Jim, Peter (Kirk), Paul (Lorraine), Andy and his sisters Mary Morgan (David), Helen Leighton-White (Andy), Geri (Beth Regan) and Terri Hughey (Shawn) and sister-in-laws Harriet White and Kim Frost. Mark was also a very proud and loving uncle to more than 30 nieces, nephews great nieces and great nephews.
