Donald L. Grant Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Donald L. Grant announce his death. He passed away on 9/22/24 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.

Donald was a lifelong resident of Eastwood until his recent move to Brockport, NY. Don retired from ARC of Onondaga. He lived by simple virtues of faith, fairness, and integrity; and he was known by his firm handshake and sincere hugs.

Don always loved sports; watching, participating, coaching, and refereeing (USSSA and SSA). He bowled and he also loved to dance. He was a longtime member of (Sons) American Legion Post 1276. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Paula (Wesnesky), with whom he shared an inspiring bond that could be easily noticed, as they actively participated with Marriage Encounter for many years, serving as a presenting couple. They joyfully raised four children: Todd Grant, Donald J. (DJ) Grant (Danielle Carroll Grant) both of Syracuse; Lindsay Dann (Andrew) from LeRoy, NY, and Jillian Hildebrand (Wade) from Texarkana, TX. Don was predeceased by his mother, Anna, and is survived by his father Ernest J. Grant; brother Ernest J. Grant (Brenda) of Indianapolis, a sister Maureen Virginia, and brother Ronald (Fran) both from the Syracuse area and a brother Louis from Florida. Don has 10 grandchildren that he dearly loved and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church with entombment to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit 4-1200 URMC via mail or online.
