Susan Gilbert Donohue, 75, of Syracuse, died peacefully on September 3, 2024, at Upstate University Hospital. Susan celebrated her Scottish heritage with pride as a member of the Daughters of Scotia Lady Douglas Lodge #126 and with service to the Central New York Scottish Games. A lifelong resident of Eastwood, Susan graduated from Henninger High School in 1966. Susan had a strong interest in politics and current events and worked the polls whenever she was able. As a mother, Susan instilled the value of life long learning and the necessity for a well rounded life. Susan treasured her time with her granddaughters, and delighted in being “Nanny.” She was the rock against which the waves broke.

Susan was pre-deceased by her parents James M. and Agnes G. Donohue.

Her surviving family includes her daughter Jennifer (Jeff) Bennett; brothers Thomas (Shelly) Donohue and Pat Donohue; sister Nancy (Dale) Bloss; granddaughters Alyson Mackenzie and Kelly Regan Bennett; several beloved nieces and nephews, and precious great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 9 at 1pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4pm at the funeral home, 3111 James Street.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of CNY.
