Ellen M. Mertens Obituary

Ellen Mertens of Liverpool, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Upstate Medical University. She was born July 16, 1944 in Gouverneur, NY. She resided most of her life in Syracuse, recently moving to Liverpool. Ellen worked in the OR at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 32+ years before retiring in 2006. She loved going to camp, reading, word search puzzles, but what she loved the most was spending time with her family.

Ellen was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband John Sr., daughter Charlene and brother Ted.

She is survived by her son John (Kari) Mertens Jr.; daughter Beverly (Jeff) Kohanski; grandchildren: Kara (Dana), Crystal (Brandon), Ryan (Cassie), Rachel (Adrienne), Marisa (Liz) and Danielle; great-grandchildren: Damien, Sophie, Aria, Brandon Jr.; along with her fur babies Khloe & Tyson.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 11am to 12:30pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home with burial to follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens.
