Obituary of Peter Paul Greco

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eastwood lost a beloved community member on December 10, 2023, when Pete Greco, (aka Papa, Uncle Pete, Mr. G), died peacefully surrounded by family. He was 89. Born in Syracuse to Sicilian parents, he had a variety of jobs -- bean picker, bread deliveryman, short-order cook, bartender, retail office manager, and requisition clerk -- before his many years in sales management for Smith Corona and Toshiba. He served in the U.S. Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Master Sargeant, and was deployed to Europe for the Berlin Wall Crisis, 1961-62. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying years of softball, bowling, and fishing. He coached little league baseball and Pop Warner football, later becoming president of Eastwood Little League, Eastwood Bears Football, and the Henninger High School Booster Club. He followed SU sports closely, rooting for both men and women’s teams. Pete really loved cooking, and he was happiest when making meals for his family and friends. The Greco house, with Pete and his beloved wife Sally as hosts, became a neighborhood social hub for Super Bowl parties, Christmas Eve parties, and many other occasions. Pete founded the Grape Nuts winemaking group in Eastwood, helping dozens of members bring their wine to fruition for over 20 years. He transferred his lifelong financial acumen into volunteer work, offering tax-filing assistance at the Onondaga County Public Libraries. He loved to read, travel and go camping. He was a smooth dancer, and enjoyed meeting new people. Pete was handy with tools, enjoying projects at his house (or other’s) and could fix anything. He was a devout Christian and an active member of several area Catholic churches. Peter was pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years, Sally A. Greco. He was a loving father to Michele Buck (David), Michael Greco (Renata) and Peter P. Greco Jr. (Christina). A cherished Papa to Scott Buck (Julia), Peter Greco (Shanice), Melina Terranova (Michael), Peter P. Greco III (Molly), Anthony Greco (Melanie), Alicia Greco, and Vincent Greco (Dominique Ostuni). And great-grandfather to Valerie, Samuel, Chloe, and Declan. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Calling hours will be Friday December 15, from 4 to 7 pm at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Saturday December 16, at 9:00 am, followed by a private burial.
