Edith (Edie) Derrick, 90, a long time resident of Eastwood, passed away peacefully on, Friday, May 24, 2013. Edie was the daughter of Ernest and Clara Maye, born on August 25, 1922 in Moriah, NY. She retired after 30 years with the New York Telephone Company and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. Edie loved gardening and exercising at Kelly Lynn and the East Area YMCA, and loved her cats and treated them as part of her family. Edie is predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Derrick and her grandson, Jeffrey D. Hubbard. Surviving are her children, daughter Patricia A. (Robert) Hubbard of East Syracuse, and son Bruce E. (Kathryn) Derrick of Liverpool. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kimberly (Carl) Diedrich of Maricopa, Az, Kenneth R. Hubbard of Liverpool, Bruce J. Derrick of Durham, NC, and Richard E. Derrick also of Liverpool. Surviving also is a great grandson, Nate Diedrich of Maricopa, Az, and Tippy, her Cat. The family would like to express a sincere gratefulness for the wonderful companionship of her friends from Kelly Lynn and the YMCA. In addition, we would like to thank the Hearth on James and Elderwood at Birchwood for their constant care, dedication and compassion for the care they have given Edie. Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on James Street at 9AM on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Humane Society of CNY.
