Obituary of Barbara McCormick

Barbara (Connelly) McCormick, 87, of Syracuse, died on Friday at her home. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a graduate of Syracuse University and had formerly taught 4th grade at Elmwood School prior to her 63 year marriage to her husband. She was also a substitute teacher in the Syracuse City Schools while she raised her family.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Jack who died on March 25, 2013; her sons: John William McCormick and Michael Patrick McCormick and her father, the former Fire Chief for the City of Syracuse, William and her mother Bertha Connelly.
She is survived by her daughters: Barbara (David) Hildenbrand of Syracuse, Mary (Robert) Maynard of Berryville, VA; a son William (Vicki) of Balston Lake, NY; a daughter-in-law Cheryl (Joseph) Liberatore of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren: Sheila Shriver, Rebecca and Daniel Maynard, Erin DeBoer, John Michael McCormick, Kara Bonvillian, Leah McCormick; and 4 great-grandchildren.
A funeral liturgy service will be held Thursday at 9am in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-6pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street. www.shepardsonfh.com
