Obituary of Lena L. Aragoni

Please share a memory of Lena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lena “Lee” (Pioli) Gonnella Aragoni passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the age of 98, just six weeks shy of her 99th birthday.  Lee was one of nine siblings who were separated after the death of their young mother. Despite being raised in various homes, the siblings were able to form a strong bond that lasted throughout their lives. Lee enjoyed playing the piano, a skill she developed on her own. She could simply hear a song and her fingers would find it in the keys of the piano.  Lee was a devoted mother and grandmother who was loving, compassionate, understanding and strong.  People of all walks of life were drawn to her kind and friendly personality. She could always see the good in others even when they couldn’t see it in themselves. Lee was uniquely creative with the ability to make something out of the simplest items. She had an eye for making anything look beautiful.
Lee’s strong faith carried her through life’s many joys and challenges. She was predeceased by her husband William Aragoni, her parents Joseph and Eletta Pioli; her brothers Jay, Aldo, and James; her sisters Alice, Victoria, Ida, Mary, and Lucy; and the father of her children, Dennis Gonnella Sr.
Grateful for the love she gave them, survivors include her children Delores (Richard) Ratowski, Dan (Sharon) Gonnella Jr. and James (Mary) Gonnella; her grandchildren Karen, Danielle, Michael H., Dennis, Shannan, Michael G., Tristine, Erin, Joshua, James, Sarah and Jessica; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A beautiful woman with a beautiful heart, we miss you already Nannie!
The Aragoni family wants to thank the Staff on 7 Memorial at Crouse for their compassionate care.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10am in St. Vincent dePaul Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery.  Calling hours are Friday 4-6pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home.
Please consider in Lee’s memory making a contribution to Hospice of CNY or Francis House.
