Mary Jo Macri Obituary

Mary Jo Macri, 61, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 24, 1961 to John and Rosemary Macri and was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. She graduated from Henninger High school in 1979 and went on to serve as a City of Syracuse Police Officer.

Mary Jo was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend and she held each of these important titles close to her heart. She showed compassion and empathy for others, and if you had the pleasure to know her, you knew just how special she truly was. She had a love for the water, the beach, and Diet Pepsi! Much of her time was spent at her home away from home, her favorite place, Sylvan Beach.

Mary Jo is predeceased by her parents, her sister Ginny, and her nephew Eric. She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary DeSocio, her brothers and sisters: John (Terri), Mark, Joan, Jimmy (Lori), Richard, Teddy (Karen), Melanie, Jeremy (Rachel), and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her daughter would like to thank the entire medical staff from Upstate Oncology (Unit 10E), Hospice of CNY, and each of the caregivers, administrators and volunteers at Francis House for the care that they provided.

Calling hours will be Monday, November 21 from 4-7pm in the Blessed Sacrament Church. The funeral mass will be Tuesday at 11:00am in the church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Francis House: 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse, 13208.
