Obituary of Elizabeth Marie Grady
Elizabeth M. Grady, 98, died on November 3, 2022. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope, in the Valley.
Betty graduated from the Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing and Hunter College. Upon relocating to Syracuse, she taught nursing at Memorial Hospital and eventually at Central Tech. Betty retired from Van Duyn Home and Hospital. Her compassion and curiosity enabled Betty to be a gifted nurse and teacher. Betty was a lifelong volunteer. Besides helping out at her parish, she most recently assisted at Francis House, the Poverello Clinic and Chilmark Chocolates.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Mary Whebby, her husband David, her granddaughter, Lauren and her sister, Helen Hannon. She is survived by her children, Tom, Mary Beth, David and his wife Hope, and her beloved grandchildren: Christopher, Sarah, Mary and Dominic. Betty has several nieces, nephews and cousins, along with her many treasured friends.
Our family is grateful for the spiritual care of Fr. Fred Mannara, the warmth and wisdom of CNY Hospice and the VNA Hospice of the Cape and the Islands, and the lighthearted caregiving of Allison Burger.
Calling hours at Our Lady of Hope, 4845 S. Salina Street will be Wednesday, November 9 from 10:00-11:00 am, followed by Mass. Burial will be at the Veteran’s Cemetery on Thursday at 9 am.
