Obituary of James R. Martin

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

James R Martin, 63 of Syracuse passed away peacefully Friday, Sept 23rd at Van Duyn Rehabilitation Center.
At the young age of 36, Jim bravely underwent extensive neck and jaw surgery after being diagnosed with throat cancer.  After his recovery, Jim worked with his doctors to speak with other patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer to offer encouragement.
Jim was formerly employed with Peace Inc.  He was an avid golfer and long time member of the Eastwood golf league.  Jim was a proud Harley Davidson bike enthusiast, having rode in many Bikers for Babies, and Bikers Against Child Abuse events.  But his greatest pleasure was being around his grandchildren and watching them play sports.
Jim was predeceased by his parents: Robert and Anne Martin; brothers in law: Rich Scanlon, Bill Eagan, and John Murray; and niece Leslie Murray.
Jim is survived by his two sons: James (Amanda) Martin and Jared (Sheena) Martin; six grandchildren: Jacob, Jaxson, Logan, Noah, Abby, and Maxwell; five sisters: Linda Scanlon, Kathleen Eagan, Patricia Murray, Susan (Edward) Spara, and Kelly (Tim) Silmser; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and beloved dog, Leo.
Friends may call Friday, September 30th, from 10-11 am at St Vincent de Paul Church, Syracuse, with a funeral mass immediately following.   Burial will be private.  Contributions can be made to Clear Path for Veterans.
