Obituary of Jean Tecler

Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jean (Gibbons) Tecler.  Jean passed away on September 13 surrounded by loved ones.  She now rests peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  Jean was a strong, passionate woman who never gave up on life; she enjoyed music, laughing, Adirondack life and making everything around her beautiful. Jean was born on May 29, 1951 in Syracuse, NY. She attended St. Margaret’s and Bishop Ludden in Syracuse. In 1969 Jean moved to Amsterdam, NY to attend St. Mary’s School of Nursing. Graduating in 1972, she began work in the Maternity department at St. Mary’s Hospital where she worked until she retired nearly 40 years later. She taught lamaze and parenting classes. Every trip to the grocery store was a chance to hear someone tell the story of how Jean helped deliver their child. Jean is survived by her kids, Michael (Jessica) Purtell, Jeremy (Stacey Antos) Purtell, Jeannine (Purtell) Doyle, and her grandchildren Quentin, Jeremy, Brady, Emily, Maura Jean, Leo, Miles and Claire. She is also survived by her siblings Thomas (Janet) Gibbons, Patrick (Eileen) Gibbons, Sheila (Wayne) Willey, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Robert “Bob” Tecler, and her parents Ann and Thomas Gibbons. Jean  was a loving mother, sister and friend. She will be remembered as an incredible nurse who touched the lives of many. Of her many achievements, perhaps the most memorable of her career was the opportunity to help welcome her grandson, Jeremy, into the world at St. Mary’s.
