Obituary of Jose Antonio Cardona

On Friday April 29, 2022, Jose Cardona passed away. He was 83 years old.
José was born on August 29, 1938, in the town of San Sebastián, Puerto Rico to Miguel Cardona and Luz Marina Cardona.
He came to New York and was employed for many years at the world famous Zabar’s on Broadway and 80th St. in Manhattan.
He lived for most of his life in Brooklyn before moving to Syracuse to be close to his daughter Laura.
José enjoyed listening to Latin music, playing cards and dominoes and watching boxing and baseball. He enjoyed reminiscing about life in his hometown in Puerto Rico. He especially loved sharing Christmas eves with his grandson, Michael.
He was predeceased by his wife Laura Cardona, and son Joseph Cardona.
He is survived by daughter Laura Estela Cardona (Anthony Ilacqua) of Syracuse, son John Cardona (Marie) of Middletown, NY, daughter Lettie Cardona of North Carolina, grandson Michael Ilacqua, granddaughters Lisa McDonald and Melanie Mencke, sister Carmen Soto, brother Leo Morales, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are May 23 from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James St. Syracuse, NY 13206. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
